AMDG Poker Tournament
At 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 27th, AMDG hosted a Poker Tournament, complete with black card tables, music and AMDG card dealers stationed at the numerous tables.
AMDG members welcomed students into the Atrium of the J.C. Williams Center for their event, which is aimed at saving for their spring retreat. “We’re raising money to bring a priest with us on retreat … we’re also going to be paying for the place itself, to rent out for the weekend, and for dinner,” sophomore member Sean Ledyard explained.
To play at the tables, there was a 5 dollar buy-in. The event was open to all students, regardless of their skill at poker. Ledyard added how they are “not taking only experienced,” but also “teaching beginners.”
The Poker Tournament went on from 5:30 to 10 p.m. From 5:30 to 8 p.m., they had a re-buy-in period for those who would like to play but had already lost. At 8 p.m., the tables closed, and from 8 to 10 p.m., people played their hands without additional people joining in.
AMDG promised a poker table with cards and chips as the prize for the first-place winner. Second-place recieved 20% of the pot, while 3rd, 4th, and 5th, receive 15%, 10%, and 5% of the pot respectively.
When freshman Joshua Cebreros was asked about the event and whether he recommends it or not, Cebreros responded: “I do recommend it, poker is really fun … buy-in’s really cheap, everybody’s really friendly.”
Additionally, freshman Anna Offsay said, “It seems like a very chill, nice time.”
