From kindergarten to college, sophomore Allyson Weiss has passionately played softball for most of her life. A business management major from Bargersville, Indiana, Weiss currently plays second base for the Lady Barons softball team.

“Growing up, I lived right next to a softball complex,” said Weiss. “I started playing when I was 5 years old and haven’t stopped since. After years behind the plate as catcher, I’ve found my home as the second baseman for Franciscan.” She has excelled at the second base position at Franciscan and will likely continue to do so.

A very cerebral player, Weiss is constantly changing her mindset at the plate. Weiss said, “When I step in the box, my mentality is to make adjustments, learn from mistakes and do my job, which is to do what I can to help the team succeed.” Even though most big plays on offense are made individually in softball, Weiss still maintains a team-oriented approach with the bat in her hands.

Weiss happily admitted that some of her goals for the year have already been accomplished. “My goal for the team this year was to clinch our spot in the AMCC Conference Playoffs. Now that we’ve done that, we’re determined to take the title of champions,” said Weiss. The Lady Barons currently sit at third place in the AMCC and have a good shot to take the conference tournament title this year.

Weiss’ inspiration comes from her family. She spoke about how they have inspired her throughout her entire life and how they push her to be the best she can be in all aspects of her life. Weiss said, “My family has been my support system from day one. They instilled in me the importance of being a team player and to never back down from a challenge.”

The Lady Barons’ next game will be at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, April 30, at Grove City College.
