Baron’s lacrosse falls to Thiel College on Senior Day

The Franciscan University of Steubenville men’s lacrosse team fell to Thiel College 25-6 Wednesday, April 29, at 7 p.m.

Before the game, the Barons honored their four senior players, midfielder Benjamin Lyle, attacker Michael Araps, goalkeeper Grant McKeown and defender William Muraski.

The Barons got off to a slow start in the first quarter. Thiel College scored four goals and the first quarter ended with a 4-0 score with Thiel College in the lead.

The Barons did not score in the second quarter but Thiel College scored six goals in the second quarter.

The third quarter began with two goals for Thiel College. Sophomore midfielder Joe Miraglia scored the first goal for the Barons with an assist by Araps.

The third quarter ended with a game score of 19-1, Thiel College in the lead.

The fourth quarter began with a goal for the Barons by freshman attack Gavin Cook with assistance from sophomore midfield Elijah Evans. Next, Araps scored unassisted for Franciscan.

Cook then scored again for the Barons with another assist from Evans. Sophomore midfield Jimmy Rush scored a sixth goal for the Barons. This was Rush’s first goal of the season.

The game ended with a final score of 25-6, the Barons falling to Thiel College.

Other game highlights included McKeown making 13 goal saves. Freshman midfield Thomas Pillar collected nine ground balls and won 11 face-offs.

The start of the game was delayed by an hour due to lightning.

The Barons regular season finale will be Saturday, May 1, at home against St. Vincent College at 1 p.m.
