The Franciscan University track and field team headed to Myrtle Beach, SC over spring break to open the outdoor season.
The women’s team placed 5th in the 4x800m relay with a time of 10:04.77 with a team of sophomore Jessica Campbell, Junior Claire Walters, Freshmen Anne O’Boyle and Clara Symington.
Cambell also placed 5th in the 800m run, with a time of 2:22.03, the second fastest in Franciscan history.
In the 400m hurdles, Symington ran the 3rd fastest time in school history, with a time of 1:12.95.
The sole field contender for the women, Brigid Mack, finished third in the discus with a throw of 40.50m, the second best of her career.
Walters placed 8th in the one mile with a time of 5:20.52.
Junior Victoria Unnerstall placed 27th in the 400m with a time of 1:09.15, followed by her teammate Freshman Jianna Hanson, who placed 31st with a time of 1:10.28.
Sophomore Emma O’Keefe finished the mile with a time of 6:15.03 to place 28th.
The men’s team also succeeded in the 4×800 relay, with the team of seniors David Cappello, Ryan Ozymy, Miguel Daez and junior Nathaniel Tokarsky placing 5th with a time of 8:07.87.
Sophomore Joseph Rohde broke his own school record in the 100m with a time of 11.14 seconds and placed 17th. His teammates Freshman Antonio Santoro placed 62nd with a sub-twelve second time and sophomore Charles Jardine placed 76th.
Rohde placed 22nd in the 200m with a time of 22.77 seconds, the second fastest in school history.
Ozymy broke the outdoor school record in the 400m with a time of 49.47, placing him sixth overall.
Daez finished 2nd in the 3000m with a time of 8:42.25 minutes, while sophomore David Di Nardo placed 14th in the 5000m with a time of 16:09.58.
Sophomore Isaac Turner placed 37th in the Javelin with a throw of 34.61m. Jardine placed 48th in the shot put with a throw of 10.51m, and junior Tyson Smith placed 64th with a throw of 8.40m.
