Franciscan University of Steubenville’s men’s soccer team displayed their offensive capabilities in a 5-0 win against La Roche on Sept. 1 at 3 p.m.
The game got off to a great start when number 15, Lucas Cross, scored the first goal not even 10 minutes into the game with the help of Julien Freeman. With this goal, the Barons showed that they were here to win.
The rest of the first half went by with no more scores, but with 10 more attempts at the goal. The Barons limited La Roche to only one shot attempt, which was missed.
When half time came, the score was 1-0. Most fans were not able to tell quite yet who would win with the score being so close. But the Barons were pulling through and hustling and were fixed on taking this endurance into the second half of the game.
They proved their point 21 minutes into the second half when Lucas Cross scored his second goal of the night, leaving the score to be 2-0.
With the new-found confidence that came with scoring the second goal, the Barons became relentless.
Not even seven minutes after Cross scored his goal, number 20, Daniel Wayert added one more point to the scoreboard. The Barons seemed persistent and wanted to score as many goals as possible on their opponent.
Six minutes after Wayert made the score 3-0, Cross went in for his third goal of the game and scored! The score was now 4-0 with only 10 minutes left in the game.
But the Barons were not done! Five minutes passed with the ball going from one team to another until number 23, Aidan Mahony, received the ball and scored the fifth and final goal of the game.
By the end of the second half, the Barons scored four more goals thanks to Cross, Wayert and Mahony.
The Barons take on their next opponent on Sep. 4, in Columbus, Ohio, at Capital University. They will hopefully take the excitement from this great victory into their next battle.
