Women’s household Crown of Creation decked out the J.C. Williams Center for its annual Guys in Ties and Girls in Pearls Dance on Feb. 24 at 9 p.m.

At the entrance to the dance, attendees received a glowstick with a color corresponding to their relationship status. The options were single, taken or “it’s complicated,” signified by green, red and yellow glow sticks respectively.

Though this was a semiformal event, attendees wore a wide variety of clothes. Outfits ranged from more formal dress to jeans and flannels.

Some members of Crowns wore actual tiaras or crowns at the dance.

During the dance, members of Crowns sold snacks like cookies and chips for attendees. They also sold drinks ranging from soda to water to help fundraise for their household.

Carae Domini, another women’s household, also sold chocolate chip cookies for its own household fundraiser at the event.

There was a significant turnout overall at the dance. At the height of the evening, the atrium was packed with dancers.

The songs chosen for the evening were a hit with students. Every song that was played earned a cheer within the first few beats.

At one point during the dance, “Put Your Head On My Shoulder” by Paul Anka was played for all the couples who attended.

Freshman Giana Vekel said, “I had so much fun! I’m so glad I came.”

Vekel added, “I love Crowns; I love the little glow in the dark bracelets and I love the crown on my hand. I feel like an honorary Crown for the night!”

Freshman Sophia Sanders said of the event, “It was probably the best dance so far I’ve been to. It was a blast and it was great to hang out with friends.”
