Water balloons armed. Tomatoes ripened. Onions ready. One can only conclude that the semester’s Lions of Judah household (LOJ) play took place this past weekend.

On Oct. 25 at 5 p.m. behind the fieldhouse, LOJ brought back the Shakespearean tradition of pure humility and pain in the performing arts. In a creative and near-genius manner, the LOJ presented an original story involving disco, Jeff Goldblum, a Taliban member, and a German living in Harlem, New York.

Through a set of uncanny and borderline racist jokes, the household gave the student body the experience of a lifetime that created a shock and awe factor in all. From the demon and devil dance number to the Taliban fight, the wild play captivated each audience member’s attention like a baby to a Cocomelon episode.

The most entertaining part of the performance, and the main reason people attend the show, was the utter suffering and silliness the actors endured through water balloon and tomato attacks as well as tears shed through onion bites. These actors stayed true to their character and presented resilience through these tough moments.

All in all, the large crowd showed the popularity of these plays through their overwhelming support. LOJ truly knows how to bring a crowd and create joy and entertainment for all.

On their experience of the play, Heidi Bentrup, a senior Spanish major, commented, “There is no panicking in this disco. Only pandemonium. Disco may be dead, but it’s having a hell of a good time tonight.”

Sophomore English major Sophia Cespedes shared, “Speechless. Phenomenal. One of a kind. Can never be replicated.”

“Boogie Knights” by Lions of Judah was truly a memorable experience that will forever haunt the name of disco at Franciscan University.
