Students filtered through Christ the Teacher’s conference center as Franciscan’s annual Education Fair took place Feb. 5. The 24 schools recruiting students at the fair came from all four corners of the country. Some came from close by in Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Virginia, while others arrived from as far off as Texas, Colorado, New York, Wisconsin, Florida, Illinois and Massachusetts.
“It was a great event with lots of schools,” said Sophie Rutkowski, senior Theology-Catechesis major. “The Catholic identity of the schools and their proximity to my hometown drew me initially, and I was not disappointed!”
While some of these schools were only looking for students who have specific degrees or are education majors, many were open to all majors. Several of the schools present were looking particularly for Franciscan graduates.
The liberal arts education, Catholic background, and fervent faith of Franciscan students make them ideal candidates for many private and Catholic schools throughout the nation. Several schools — including Valor Education, Royalmont Academy and the Seton Teaching Fellows — have in the past hired Franciscan students, no matter their major, and plan to continue to keep their doors open to all majors.
“I’m really thankful that Franciscan put on the Education Fair!” Michelle Mayers, senior History-Education major, said. Mayers found the Education fair to help her reach out to more opportunities in finding her dream teaching position. “I am looking for a school where I’m going to be supported by the staff and faculty, as well as being an authentically Catholic School.”
The Education Fair was made possible with the help of Franciscan’s Career Services Office, which works to help students find their personal vocation in the workforce. For more information about career opportunities, please reach out to the Career Services Office.
