Fall All-Majors Career Fair

“Fall All-Majors Career Fair!” banners have been seen all over campus this week. They directed students to the Saint Paul VI Conference Center, which hosted an all-majors career fair on Wednesday, Nov. 5.

That afternoon, the conference center was filled with tables advertising various organizations. Professionals from diverse occupations, both Catholic and not, gathered to describe their jobs to students.

Around 25 booths were set up throughout the center, including companies such as the Catholic Psych Institute, COR Expeditions and WesBanco.

Tables promoted the different organizations with brochures, pens, stickers, candy and cookies. There were many links to websites, webinars and additional information for interested students.

Director of Career Services, Mark McGuire, described the fair as an opportunity for students to “get hired … for either a full-time job after graduation or an internship while they are a student.”

Madeline Sholar, a junior, visited the St. Thomas Mission booth, which opened up new job possibilities for her. “I didn’t know that there were many different travel opportunities for teaching jobs,” Sholar remarked.

Maria Vazquez, from Seton Teaching Fellows, explained some benefits of her organization for Franciscan students. “You get to step into a classroom and encounter the Lord every single day,” she said. Vazquez described Seton Teaching Fellows as “a mission program trying to revitalize Catholic education in a unique way in urban areas.”

When asked about her overall experience at the career fair, Marian Sholar, a freshman, said, “I think it’s really nice, everyone is super friendly here, they tell you a lot about the details and what you can expect.”
