Franciscan University has a great diversity of talent, hobbies and gifts among its students, which form a great pool of student life clubs. Each of these clubs seek to praise and glorify God through their various interests and talents. One of the newer clubs is the Franciscan University Dance club.

Every other Saturday, students gather in the Aerobics room to teach each other different forms of dance. This varies from ballet and jazz to traditional and cultural folk dancing. The idea of this club is to express and appreciate the diversity of dance, doing so for the greater glory of God.

How does one glorify God through dance? We are temples of the Holy Spirit, made in the image and likeness of God. Thus, using the gift of one’s body to create beauty through dance is taking the gift of the human body and using it to create joy and community. This glorifies God.

Current president of the Franciscan Dance Club Bianca Fede was unavailable for any comment but has worked to build a diverse community of dance styles. The club has welcomed people of all dance backgrounds, including those who have never danced a day in their lives.

So far, the Franciscan University Dance Club has had lessons in ballet and jazz. Coming up on Saturday, April 5, they will be having a class on traditional Irish Ceili and step dancing. Other events hosted by the Franciscan university Dance Club are in the works for next semester. In the future, the club looks forward to putting on showcases of various dance styles for the university and to celebrate the various types of dance.
