Three freshmen senators were sworn in during Franciscan University Student Government’s formal business meeting Wednesday, Sept. 11.

Freshmen Paul Aubert, Julia Hetmantsky and Cecilia Cuellar were elected by their peers during Monday’s election. Chief Justice Billy Chester swore in the new senators during the Wednesday meeting. They were selected out of a pool of five candidates.

No bills were presented during the meeting.

David Schmiesing, Franciscan’s vice president of student life and Student Government’s advisor for the past 15 years, spoke to the body about their purpose on campus and how they represent the student population.

Schmiesing said Student Government represents the concerns and thoughts of the student body to the university’s administration, faculty and the general public.

“You have a special role in representing students with everything you do,” Schmiesing said. “You are here to serve the student body.”

Student Government will next meet Sept. 18 at 11 a.m. in the St. Leo Room.
