Franciscan University Student Government elected a new sophomore senator during its formal meeting on April 3.

Mary Kettinger, a sophomore political science major, was elected from a group of four candidates. Keetinger, who will be a resident assistant next year, said during her campaign speech that she was so committed to serving as a resident assistant that she is foregoing a semester abroad, proving her commitment to serve the student body.

Kettinger fills the position left by the resignation of Monica Surovec.

In addition to the election, Student Government also allocated money to several clubs.

Fatal Men’s Ultimate Frisbee were the beneficiaries of Spring Bill 66, which gave them $1,300 to rent vans for its tournament April 5-7 with Ave Maria University’s Ultimate team.

Spring Bill 69 allocated $395.40 to buy pizza for the Animal Years concert on April 7. The event, which is sponsored by the offices of Student Life and Residence Life, will be held in the J.C. Williams Center.

Spring Bill 68 gave Student Government $537.76 to refurbish a painting of Our Lady of Guadalupe that hangs in Antonian Hall.

Student Government was also allocated $140 in Spring Bill 67 to find shuttles to the First Friday on Fourth event on April 5 in downtown Steubenville.

Student Government will next meet April 10 at 11 a.m. in the J.C. Williams Center.
