Franciscan University Student Government allocated $2,214.50 at its Wednesday meeting for a tailgate party that will kick off the new Baron Brigade.

The tailgate, called Baron Blast, will be held Saturday before the Barons’ and Lady Barons’ soccer matches at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Games, food and T-shirts will be provided for those who attend the event.

FUSG President Alex McKenna said, “By developing a proud school spirit, Baron Brigade will not only support our athletes in their athletic pursuits, but also integrate campus community around a loving and dynamic community. The tailgate serves to bring students around the table for fun, food, fellowship and the blast that is being a Baron.”

FUSG allocated $447 to sponsor Wisconsin Fest, which will be held October 16 in the Piazza de Santi. There will be deep-fried cheese curds, bratwurst and frozen custard from Culver’s, a resturant that originated in Wisconsin.

Senator Jon Meinholz, senior and organizer of the event, said, “I look forward to (sharing) the rich Wisconsin culture with students (from) all across the country, especially giving them the opportunity to enjoy our cuisine.”

FUSG allocated $481.56 for the purchase of donuts and coffee to be distributed after the 10:30 a.m. Mass Sunday, Oct. 3.

Committee heads were voted on at the meeting. The arrangement of each committee will commence at a later date. The committees are meant to examine and propose bills across five sectors of FUSG functions.

Junior Senator Preston Pelishek is the head of the finance committee; senior Senator Anthony Zeszut is the head of the student welfare; sophomore Senator Emilia DeGroat is the head of development; sophomore Senator James Duarte is the head of Rules to Order and senior Senator Maria Gontis is the head of outreach.

The best dressed awards went to Vice President Joshua Schutte and freshman Senator Amelia Abdalla.

FUSG will next meet Oct. 6 at 11 a.m. in the St. Leo room.
