Franciscan University Student Government prepared for Midnight Madness to kick off the Barons’ basketball season by allocating $1,528.38 at the FUSG meeting Wednesday.

Midnight Madness is an event to start the basketball season and excite students for the upcoming games. It happens every year on campus and will take place Oct. 23 from 10 p.m. to midnight in the Finnegan Fieldhouse.

The allocated money will be used to purchase decorations, pizza — including gluten-free pizza — and T-shirts, which will be given out to the first 100 people to arrive.

FUSG allocated $1,000 to Residence Life for an RA event called “Sensitivity to Sin and Suffering on Campus” hosted by the Hard as Nails ministry on Oct. 29 from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Gentile Gallery.

Justin Fatica, founder of Hard as Nails, will be speaking about being more aware of sin and suffering on campus, how to be a witness to what God has helped people through and how to be a support to others, said RA representative junior Sophia Fernandez.

FUSG allocated $400 to Graduate Counseling Association for Speakers for speaker fees and refreshments.

FUSG allocated $119.90 to the Baron Brigade for the volleyball pep rally to be held Oct. 21 at 4:30 p.m. There will be a fire pit and pizza will be available for those who are a part of Baron Brigade. Those who are not a part of the Baron Brigade are invited to Baron Blast from 5 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. for free burgers and hot dogs in the Finnegan Fieldhouse plaza.

The new hiking club, Verso L’alto Hiking Club, was recognized as an official club by FUSG and has been permitted a budget. Hiking trips will take place in the form of pilgrimages to destinations, with lunch provided.

FUSG allocated $99.30 for the puchase of donuts and coffee for a meeting for FUSG and club leaders after 12:05 Mass on Oct. 22. This will help FUSG build relationship with club leaders.

The Best Dressed award for this meeting went to senior senator Anthony Zeszut and senior treasurer Molly Propson.

The next FUSG meeting will be Oct. 20 at 11 a.m. in the St. Leo Room.
