Franciscan University’s women’s softball team fell to the University of Pitt.- Greensburg in a doubleheader April 19, coming in with scores of 15-1 and 12-0, respectively.

Neither team scored any runs until the second inning of the first game when the Pitt.- Greensburg Bobcats scored four runs. The Lady Barons were able to keep up until the seventh inning when the Bobcats scored an additional 10 runs.

Head Coach James Walker said, “In the last innings, we ran out of gas. We played better today than some past games. We need to be more consistent.”

The Lady Barons came back to score one run after they lost the 10 runs. Despite the losses in scoring, Franciscan played better on the defensive side.

In the second game, the Lady Barons did not score any runs, but Iliana Gonzales, senior outfielder, helped on the defense for the team, recording four tough outs.

Walker said, “Iliana has played really well for us at second, so we moved her back there from the outfield to try (to) limit the infield errors. I’m hoping the other girls can match her intensity as a player.”

Franciscan has three more conference doubleheaders away before the team plays another doubleheader at home April 30. The games will be against University of Pitt.- Bradford at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
