Jesters of Yahweh (JOY) hosted a swashbuckling night like no other on Sept. 14 at 6 p.m. in the Pavillion.
The sails were set, the plank was prepped and the tastiest seawater punch was served. JOY pulled out all the stops to entertain and give the student body a night to remember.
The night began with an impressive display of fencing athleticism with Franciscan University’s fencing club performing to the tune of the “Pirates of the Caribbean” soundtrack.
The Jesters also hosted mini games, coloring tables, line dances with an iconic live band, pirate impressions and most memorable of all, bounties on numerous people throughout the night.
Senior in sacred music Katie McCarron stated, “I was ecstatic for Jest Fest. J’adore Jesters (I adore Jesters).”
The pirate theme of the night speaks profoundly of the playful and light-hearted characteristics that Jesters of Yahweh are widely known for. They truly allowed the student body to let go of the stressors of being a college student with their silliness and enjoying the present moment.
On the decision behind the theme, Kelly McSherry, a junior nursing student, responded, “The theme was inspired by a quote from St. Therese of Lisieux who said, ‘the world is not thy ship but thy home,’ and that’s where the pirate theme came from.”
Though the games, treats and bounties were golden, the real hidden treasure of the night was the comradery and joy shared by the amazing Jesters of Yahweh household.
