Joy in the House of the Lord: Students End Tuesdays with Praise and Worship

Every Tuesday night, students pour into Christ the King Chapel for Tuesday Praise and Worship, hosted by the Office of Student Evangelization. The worship nights, which consist of a brief opening reflection, followed by praise songs provided by Music Ministry, have proven to be a popular way for students to end their Tuesdays.

“I just love these nights because I feel like at the end of a long workday or school day you can just come in and totally surrender to God,” said junior Bernadette Vercillo. “You can take all your worries and lay them at the foot of the cross.”

The worship nights have proven to be particularly popular among students for the sense of communal prayer they instill in the school community.

Freshman Leah Reinoso reflected on the experience she had following the Oct. 7 worship night: “It was so moving and amazing. It’s such a blessing to come as a community to be one with the Lord and give Him praise and glory, I love it.”

This sense of community worship was echoed by sophomore Judah Khym, one of the nights’ worship leaders. Khym stated that his favorite part of leading worship every Tuesday was “getting to create a place where the community can gather to worship the Lord in a radical and unique way.”

“I was in mental prayer, and I was just hugging my mother Mary and singing Jesus’ praises with her to her Son,” said freshman Andrew Boldt. “It was awesome.”

Another aspect of the worship nights are the periodic reflections between songs, led by senior Will Kothmeier. During the Oct. 7 worship night, Kothmeier invited the community to offer up their intentions to God and to enter into prayer more fully.

“What I like about this is that I get to see and experience God resurrect people here, and I get to see dead things come to life,” Kothmeier said. “Ultimately the whole point is to worship Him and to see his graces.”

The worship nights take place every Tuesday night in Christ the King Chapel from 9-10 p.m. All are invited for a night of prayer and praise.
