The Franciscan University of Steubenville women’s volleyball team lost 3-0 against the Saint Vincent Bearcats in a home game on Sept. 19 at 7 p.m.

This was the Barons’ second home game of the season and first game against the Bearcats. The Barons led 16-15 in the beginning of the first set.

Franciscan sophomore Annelise Davis aided the Barons in securing this lead by making seven kills in the beginning of the first set. The Bearcats, however, were able to rally back and win the first game 25-22

In the second set, the teams were going back and forth, quickly bringing the score to 9-9. The Bearcats went on a 4-1 run, but the Barons responded with a 3-0 run themselves to tie the score 13-13.

The Barons secured a 20-19 lead, but the Bearcats came back on a 6-1 run to win the second set 25-21 over the Barons.

The Bearcats dominated in the third set, not allowing the Barons to come within five points to secure the 25-16 victory and the crucial third set.

Davis was among the three leading the Barons with kills in the overall game. Junior Sara Moore led the Barons in 17 digs which aided the 57 digs the team made in the game overall.

Head coach Sean Cleary said, “Our libero (Moore) always stands out to me just because she’s very tenacious, she has such a never-quit attitude and a great persona and just great work ethic.”

The Baron’s next home game is Tuesday, Sept. 26 at 7 p.m. against Bethany College in the Finnegan Fieldhouse.
