Lady Barons fall to Washington and Jefferson Presidents

The Lady Barons were defeated by the Washington and Jefferson Presidents 78-52 at a home game Saturday, Feb. 20.

This is the Lady Barons’ third loss of the season. Washington and Jefferson leads the Presidents’ Athletic Conference this season with five wins and zero losses.

In the first quarter, junior forward Angela Starre shot a bucket, and freshman forward Sophia LaRose and sophomore guard Clare McGahan each scored 3-pointers. Franciscan gained 16 points and Washington and Jefferson finished the quarter in the lead with 31 points.

At the beginning of the second quarter, freshman guard Natalie Conner made a 3-pointer. Freshman guard Isabel Atendido also made a pair of 3-pointers.

The Lady Barons scored 11 points in the second quarter to Washington and Jefferson’s 17 points.

In the third quarter, sophomore point guard Selena Coronis scored nine of the Lady Baron’s 11 points earned that quarter. Washington and Jefferson gained 16 points.

The Lady Barons tied Washington and Jefferson for points earned in the fourth quarter. Both teams scored 14 points. Washington and Jefferson prevailed, with a final score of 78-52.

Starre led the fourth quarter for the Lady Barons. She scored six of the 14 points. Starre was also highest scoring player for the Lady Barons, with a total of 13 points. She was followed by Coronis with 12 and Conner with seven.

The Lady Barons also shot 73.9% from the free throw line and 38.5% from deep. These are the best marks of their season so far.

Paige Kendall, a freshman center, celebrated her first recorded block of her career.

Both the Lady Barons soccer and tennis teams came to watch and support the basketball team that night.

The Lady Barons look forward to their next home game Feb. 27 at 1 p.m. against Grove City College.
