Lady Barons lacrosse team victorious in first AMCC game

The Lady Barons lacrosse team registered a 14-9 win over Hilbert College on March 23.

The Lady Barons maintained the lead for the entirety of the game, scoring two goals in the first five minutes.

Franciscan kept the lead into the end of the first period by a score of 6-3. At the beginning of the second half, the Hawks stepped it up and closed the deficit to 2, leaving the score at 8-6 with a three-goal run, but the Lady Barons came back with a four-goal run of their own and would not surrender the lead after that point.

Each player stood out on the field and was at the top of her game, with 10 members of the team personally registering a point for the Lady Barons.

Some players who stood out on the field included junior Elizabeth Jordan, who was at the top of her game with seven ground balls, four draw controls and eight caused turnovers, setting a new single-game record for the Lady Barons.

Junior Treise McCarthy also stood out, in aiding the Lady Barons as they tallied their largest lead of the half, with her first score of the game in the first period.

Two other notable players included junior Carly McDonald and senior Mary Krolicki, who each finished off the game with four goals. Krolicki scored the first two goals of the game, and McDonald had a pair of assists. Elizabeth Galaburri, Emmy Mathias, Madeline Smith and Blair Wonderly also aided the Lady Barons with 10 collective assists out of 14 points the Lady Barons stacked up against the Hawks.

The final score of the game was 14-9, the first win of the year in the AMCC. The Lady Barons next play at home on April 3 at 5 p.m. against Wooster College.
