The Franciscan University of Steubenville women’s soccer team defeated the Bethany Bison 6-0 on Sept. 30 at 1 p.m.
It was a hot, sunny day at Trinity Health System Field with the occasional cloud in the sky.
The Lady Barons got off to a slow start, struggling to get their offense going, but they were able to rely on their defense to keep the game tied in the starting minutes.
The Barons opened the scoring in the 29th minute when graduate nursing major Bella Rubino assisted junior biology major Tania Davidson giving them a 1-0 lead.
After the goal both teams locked down defensively, not allowing anymore goals in the first half.
The Barons started hot and stayed hot in the second half. Senior English-writing major Gabriella De La Torre opened the scoring once more in the 55th minute to give the Barons a 2-0 lead.
Rubino charged down the field two minutes later and scored in the 57th minute to extend the Baron’s lead to three.
The Baron defense was also on excellent display, only allowing two shots on goal, both of which were saved by junior goalkeeper Rebecca Dill.
The Barons continued adding onto their lead in the 72th minute when senior nursing major Juliana Rubino was able to find the back of the night for the Baron’s fourth goal of the night.
The two Baron midfielders freshman education major Elise Winogradoff and sophomore nursing major Abby Measor rounded out the scoring for the Barons in the final 10 minutes to put the Barons up 6-0.
The Baron’s next home game is Wednesday, Oct. 4 at 5 p.m. against Westminster College at Trinity Health System Field.
