Lady Barons swim team end season with a victory

The Franciscan University women’s swim team beat the Chatham Cougars 122- 90 at a home meet Saturday, Nov. 18 at 1 p.m. 

This meet was the Barons last meet of the fall season but provided a six game winning streak which would lead into their spring season next semester.  

The Barons started off strong in the Women’s 200 medley relay with a win by senior Sarah Kelty, freshman Janie Whatley and senior Anne Konstanty with a total time of 2:09.15 which earned 11 points for the Barons.  

The Barons continued to grow their winning streak in the fourth event. The Women 1650 Yard Freestyle was tackled by freshman Madeline Dietrich with a final time of 21:10.77 where the Barons earned 9 points in this event.  

The Barons continued their strong swimming and took the lead in the sixth event, the Women’s 800 Yard Freestyle relay. Sophomore Rachel Pergi, senior Mia Doyle and Kelty made strides and gathered a final time of 10:19.30 which contributed to the Barons’ victory.  

Whatley continued to aid the Barons win in the tenth event, Women 100 Yard Breaststroke with the final time of 1:16.35 which contributed 9 points to the Barons’ other four points earned in this event. 

The Barons won the fourteenth event, the Women’s 50 Freestyle where freshman Sydney McGee won with the final time of 29.97 and earned 9 points for the Barons.  

The Cougars won the last four events but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Barons’ lead ended. 

The Barons hope to resume their winning streak in their spring season on Saturday, Jan. 13 at 1 p.m. against Hiram College at Big Red Natatorium.
