Lady Barons tennis defeats Waynesburg 9-0

The Franciscan University of Steubenville women’s tennis team defeated Waynesburg University 9-0 on Friday, March 27, in a clean sweep at an away game.

Franciscan players for this game were junior Zoey Stapleton, sophomore Hayley Davinsizer, senior Ana Victoria Haddad, freshman Maria Herrera, sophomore Caroline Picard, junior Alyce Davis and freshman Susan Schuberg.

First up for Franciscan were the number two doubles team Stapleton and Davinsizer. They won their match 8-3.

Next up in doubles for Franciscan were the number one doubles team Haddad and Herrera. They won 8-0 against Waynesburg in their match.

The third Franciscan duo were number three doubles Picard and Davis. They won their match 8-0 against Waynesburg.

In the number one singles match, Herrera won 6-0 in both sets against Waynesburg.

Up next, Schuberg also won 6-0 against Waynesburg in both sets of the number six singles match.

Davinsizer defeated Waynesburg 6-0 and 6-1 in the number four singles match.

Haddard won 6-1 in both sets against Waynesburg in the number two singles match.

Picard won 6-0 and 6-1 in the number five singles match. This was Picard’s second win of the season.

Stapleton had a tighter 6-4 win against Waynesburg in the first set of the number three singles match. In the second set, she defeated Waynesburg 6-1.

Overall, the Lady Barons had a clean sweep, defeating Waynesburg 9-0. This was the Lady Barons second victory for the season. They are currently tied for second in the PAC.

The Lady Barons’competed in their next match against Thiel College Saturday, March 27, at 1 p.m. for the first time at home this season.
