This Saturday at home, the Franciscan University of Steubenville women’s tennis team fought out an impressive 9-0 sweep in the crisp fall air against Medaille to earn their ninth straight win.

The Lady Barons dominated in both singles and doubles on their home courts at Belleview Park, adding yet another impressive win to their streak.

The doubles teams opened up with Franciscan’s senior Maria Binette and junior Madelyn Conrad defeating their opponents 8-1. This was quickly followed up by another win from junior Gracie Hammel and sophomore Ana Victoria Haddad Garcia who worked together to shut down their opponents with the same score.

Seniors Julia Razook and Taranee Karimpour also won their match with a close finish of 8-5. These triumphs in the doubles matches brought the score up to 3-0 in Franciscan’s favor going into the singles matches and left Medaille scoreless.

Conrad was the first to step up for singles and fought hard to beat her Medaille opponent to mark the first singles win of the match for Franciscan and the fourth match in her own winning streak. She won back to back sets, 6-1 and 6-1, to put Franciscan up even further to 4-0.

This success was shortly followed by a victory from Garcia, who beat her opponent 6-1 and 6-0 in epic style to get her fifth win of the season. Binette won her singles match with an efficient 6-0, 6-3 close to top off her streak with a fourth singles win for the season. Razook also knocked out her opponent, winning in two sets with scores of 6-0, 6-1.

Hammel made quick work of her opponent with a 6-2, 6-0 win. Karimpour also closed down her opponent with two clean 6-1 sets to bring Franciscan a final score of 9-0 against Medaille.

This win marks the Lady Barons tennis team’s seventh straight AMCC victory as they plough through their opponents in an exciting season. The team has had a stellar track record, with no losses in their doubles matches up to date and great individual successes. Garcia currently has the highest personal streak with her 5-0 stats for the season, and no other player has more than one loss on record for the season so far.

The Lady Barons tennis team looks to keep up their winning streak with their next match against D’Youville at home on Sunday, Sept. 30 at 11 a.m.
