Lady Barons volleyball falls to Bethany College

The lady Barons volleyball team lost with a final score of 3-0 against the Bethany College Bison Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Finnegan Fieldhouse.

During the first set, senior setter Grace Wallace became the third Baron in Franciscan history to eclipse 1000 set assists. The Lady Barons’ fans showed their support with posters and cardboard head cutouts for Wallace.

The Bison jumped ahead to a 15-5 lead in the first set. The Barons battled back but fell short, ending the first set 25-18.

In the second set, the Barons kept it close, leading 11-10. Junior libero Sara Moore and sophomore right side Annelise Davis added aces to the board.

The Bison took the second set with a score of 25-19.

Despite the loss of the first two sets, the lady Barons took an early lead in the third set 6-2. The Barons and the Bison went back and forth throughout the set.

The score in the third set was tied 7-7. Sophomore outside hitter Gabrielle Disselkamp helped the Barons with a few kills, and freshman outside hitter Cassidy McCollum added an ace.

However, the Bison had a streak 7-0 to put them back in the lead.

Disselkamp dove into her team’s bench, saving the ball and winning a rally for the Barons. The Barons and the Bison continued to battle and tied at 19-19.

The Bison retook the lead and won with a score of 25-21.

The lady Barons will travel to Mount Aloysius on Thursday for their 7:00 p.m. matchup.
