The Franciscan University women’s swim team started their season strong, defeating the Bethany Bison and West Viriginia-Wesleyan Bobcats at their first home meet on Oct. 21 at 1 p.m. at Big Red High School.

After defeating the Bison and Bobcats, the Lady Barons remain undefeated with a record of 3-0.

The first event, a 200-yard medley relay, was won by junior Jessica Stiles, freshman Janie Whatley, junior Faith Sirilla and freshman Madeline Dietrich with a time of 2:10.29.

Stiles, a team captain, went on to win the rest of her races, including the 200-yard butterfly and 500-yard freestyle.

Dietrich also did well throughout the meet, taking first-place in the 200-yard freestyle and the 200-yard backstroke.

Whatley kept the momentum, winning the 200-yard Individual Medley and 200-yard breaststroke.

The Lady Barons finished strong with a win in the last event, a 200-yard freestyle relay. Freshman Sydney McGee, senior Amelia Doyle, freshman Rachel Pergi and senior Anne Konstanty ended with 1:59.70.

“Our coach switched the lineup a little this week. Most of us raced different events than we normally do, but we all raced and scored really well,” said Stiles.

“It was a joy to see so many Franciscan students come out to support us at our first home meet,” Stiles added.

The Lady Baron’s next home meet will be Nov. 18 against the Chatham Cougars at 1 p.m.
