A Residence Life coffeehouse Friday evening had students transitioning from the Piazza dei Santi into the St. Thomas More Hall lobby for musical performances and coffee after rain started pouring shortly after the event began.
Students were invited to come to the Piazza to grab a cup of coffee, chat with friends and listen to musical performances from 7 to 9 p.m. However, about half an hour in, the rain changed that plan.
Mitch Royce, a graduate of Franciscan University who was visiting for the night, said, “If we’re going for or against rain, I’m all against rain.”
Before the change of location, tables were set with fall-themed cloths and jack-o’-lanterns that radiated colorful lights. The Piazza was decorated with strings of lights.
Residence Life staff supplied tables with flavored coffee for students. Colorful markers were provided to customize the drinking cups. Desserts such as banana bread, chocolate chip cookies and more were offered once students had filled their cups.
When the music and coffee were moved inside, only acoustic performances were permitted for the rest of the event’s duration.
People sang along to the tunes being sung by the performers, including Patrick Briley singing an original song entitled “Like a Lion.”
Senior Sophia Fernandez said, “I think Patrick Briley is one of the greatest gifts the Lord has given the world. We’re blessed by his talent this evening.”
Senior Joni Wille said, “I was surprised they had a backup plan when it started raining. So, I’m glad we (could) still participate.”
