Audience members trickled in around 7 p.m. Oct. 2 to see The Riverside perform in the J.C. Williams pavilion. Strings of lights hung around the stage, surrounding a waiting guitar, cello and harp.

Seats were quickly filled, necessitating those without chairs to lounge on blankets or benches nearby. When the Riverside started playing, the audience was immediately captivated by their organic and folksy music.

The Riverside was founded by close friends Jake Jeanson, Kristen Posey and Chase Fierro in 2012. Since then, the trio have toured across the United States at venues big and small. Thanks to Pamela Medina, a senior English major, the band made a pit stop on our beautiful campus to kick off their 2024 tour.

“It’s the good music and the food and the drink that bring us together … but fun that really fulfills us,” Medina said.

It was truly remarkable to see how many were brought together to enjoy good music and fellow students’ company, despite classes looming over from the next morning.

“It’s beautiful to witness this unity,” Medina said. “How often do you see our student body in communion like this?”

Thank you, Riverside, for filling our busy Wednesday evening with beautiful melodies. Let’s wish them luck on their tour across the U.S.
