Franciscan University Student Government appointed its 2015-2016 public relations liaison Wednesday as well as moving to support Franciscan’s reactivated equestrian club.

The meeting was called into order by President Ben Stroka, followed by prayer and the pledge of allegiance. After discussing reports and approval of minutes, two bills were proposed.

The first bill under discussion involved the allocation of funds to Franciscan’s equestrian club, sponsored by Senator Samantha Martinez. In the spring of 2015, the club was denied funds because of its lack of members. Student Government revisited this issue with a new bill proposition that allocates $250.00 to the equestrian club for its Intercollegiate Horse Show Association membership fee. Equestrian club President Suzann Prushinksi was present at the meeting.

Prushinksi explained that the membership fee would cover the team as a whole in competition.

Student Government’s executive board unanimously voted in favor of this bill.

The second bill to be discussed was the confirmation of Elizabeth Collins as Student Government’s public relations liaison. Collins held the title of executive assistant last spring.

When asked how she planned to manage both positions, Collins explained that the duties of the two will overlap because the jobs are so similar.

“This adds on to my duties through the social media aspect, including the Facebook account and updating the Student Government website,” said Collins.

The vote was unanimous to grant Collins the additional position, and, as a result, Collins will now serve as both executive assistant and public relations liaison.

“She is beaming with excitement to serve on the executive staff again in a new capacity,” said President Stroka.
