Franciscan University Student Government swore in six new council members at its first meeting of the academic year Wednesday in the St. Leo Room.

Senior Alex McKenna, FUSG president, began the meeting by swearing in the new council members: junior Aidan Gavin, chief justice; senior Emily Adams, secretary; senior Molly Propson, treasurer; senior John Paul Anthony, executive assistant; senior Gina Villanti, public relations liaison; and sophomore Sean Winkler, justice.

The new council members joined the current FUSG council members, who were sworn in at the end of the previous semester.

Dan Dentino, vice president of Student Life and FUSG advisor, attended the meeting to introduce himself to the new FUSG council members. He listed his goals for the year and provided words of affirmation and encouragement to the council members.

“My approach to student life is based off of three things: invitation, hospitality and presence,” said Dentino. “I’m thrilled to be an advocate for the Student Government and the student population of Franciscan University.”

McKenna said he is working with Dentino on a student engagement survey that will allow Franciscan University students to provide feedback on multiple areas of the university, especially student life. They plan to publish the survey this semester.

“I’m very excited to be the new Student Government president,” said McKenna. “Our vision is to support students in being the leaders that they want to be, to be the change they want to be by providing the funding, marketing and student support that students need to make that initiative happen.”

The next Student Government meeting will be held Sept. 8 in the St. Leo Room at 11 a.m.
