Palm trees decorated the J.C. Williams Center atrium as students mingled and listened to music from noon to 4 p.m. Thursday, April 21.

“A Day to Chill on the Hill” was the fourth event hosted by Exc!te as part of its Spring Fling Week.

Students were treated to live music, free food, lawn games and a caricature artist.

The event alternated between a playlist and live music from freshmen Sean Bobak and Anthony “Shway” Quintero, as well as sophomore Murphy Givens.

The stage was positioned under the stairs with a large inflatable tree sharing the stage.

Quintero was a big hit, performing original songs such as “Gold” and “Tonight,” the latter of which was a duet with Givens.

Freshman Brynn Jacobson was in the audience for much of Quintero’s performance.

“It was a (great) experience,” she said.

Givens’ performance brought a few other performers to the stage for a duet, including the Rev. Rufino Corona, TOR, at one point.

Vince Ornato, a caricature artist from iDrawFaces, was stationed to the right of the bookstore. Ornato had a steady flow of students waiting to have their picture drawn for the entire four hours.

Brand new corn hole boards and spike ball sets were positioned in the J.C. atrium and the surrounding area before being moved outside next to the tent.

Pulled pork sandwiches, baked beans and cheesecake were provided by Mjb Bbq outside the J.C. lower entrance, below the overhang. A variety of soft drinks, juice boxes and a half keg of root beer were also provided free of charge.

Originally planned to be outside — in and around the J.C. tent, the event was moved inside due to the cold weather. Similarly, the slip-n-slide was cancelled due to the weather.

In spite of the shortcomings, senior Jonathon Meinholz said he applauded Exc!te for their work.

“I think the Exc!te staff did a great job of handling the circumstances and bringing a great and fun event to the student body,” Meinholz said.

Exc!te’s final event for the semester was the Spring Formal Friday, April 22. Exc!te’s regular meetings will resume next semester on Wednesdays at 11 a.m. in the St. Margaret Room.
