The Fighting Muskies Prove Too Much for Men’s Lacrosse

Franciscan’s men’s lacrosse team faced off against Muskingum University at 7 p.m. on Feb. 25. This non-conference home game ended in a loss for the Barons.

The Barons were coached by Pete Rosaschi and were coming off a win, but the Fighting Muskies were a formidable foe. The Barons are 1-6 all time against Muskingum who has won in their last four meetings.

A look inside the numbers showed that Franciscan walked away only after one of their players broke a long-standing record for total goals.

Junior, No. 4 Joseph James led the Barons with six goals, scoring 60 percent of his team’s goals. James set a new program record for career goals. He passed Jonas McCaig’s 142 goals with his own impressive 145.

James was not the only Baron to stand out. Freshman goalkeeper No. 9 John Kirk had 17 saves, while Muskingum only had 10.

The Barons scored the most in the fourth quarter. James scored with 13:35 and then 13:24 left in the fourth to cut FUS’ deficit to 18-7.

In the final minute, Franciscan struck twice. No. 23 JT Sebestyen delivered his first with 52 seconds left. Muskingum answered 20 seconds later. The Barons added a final goal with five seconds remaining to end the game at 22-10 for Muskingum’s victory.
