The Tomb Is Empty but Not the Dance Floor: Franciscan’s 2026 ‘Res’ Party
After the Easter Vigil on April 4, students and families crowded into the J.C. Williams Center for the Office of Evangelization’s Annual Resurrection Party. It went on from midnight to a bit after 3 a.m.
The atmosphere was lively, with food served upstairs ranging from McDonald’s, Dunkin’, Dominos and Taco Bell, while live music, or the student-dubbed “mosh pit” went on downstairs.
Everyone was dressed in their Sunday best and enjoyed dancing and singing along to 2010 favorites such as “Pumped Up Kicks” by Foster the People and “Out of My League” by Fitz and the Tantrums. Live band ‘Just Jacob’ performed for most of night and had fun spraying students with the smoke machine.
Posters which read ‘Straight Outta the Tomb’ and ‘Res Party’ were scattered across the building. Separate rooms throughout the J.C allowed students to take a break from the main party and have conversations or play games such as Hangman.
Free t-shirts which depicted the Resurrected Jesus riding motorbike labeled with the text ‘Godspeed’ were thrown for students to catch. The climax of the party, however, was when colorful balloons were released from the ceiling and onto the dance floor.
When asked to summarize the annual Res party, senior Katie Ramsey made a list. “The balloon dropping, free food” she said, “and the friars partying it up with us.”
Franciscan’s Res party reached more than just students, families and visiting friends also attended. Visiting Benedictine College Sophomore Ariana Guzman shared her impressions: “I love it! Vibes are great. . .everyone just has a contagious energy about them. . .it’s the Easter joy!”
In spreading festivity and engaging community, it’s safe to say that the Office of Evangelization hosted another successful Res Party.
