Students met for the first official dance of the academic year, a masquerade ball hosted by the Veritas Society, in the Piazza de Santi April 18.
Due to the size of the crowd expected to attend, the Veritas Society hosted the ball outside rather than the original location in the J.C. Williams Center.
Sparkling white sheets and white and lavender candles added to the ambience while space heaters provided comfort for the dancers.
Students rallied around a table of 1,000 chicken nuggets catered by Burger King. To compliment the hors d’oeurves, there were sparkling ciders and ginger sodas at another table.
A five-instrument band made up of Franciscan University of Steubenville students performed live music. This, combined with recorded speaker music, provided the playlist of the night in a variety of styles so that student could waltz, swing dance and country dance.
A third sight of the night was a performance by student jugglers from the St. Paul Juggling Troupe. The crowd gathered around the performance and cheered on the spectacle.
Annie Cuccinelli, a freshman nursing major, said, “The dance was a much needed event for us to just have fun with friends and another good excuse to dance and meet new people. It was a great break from school and I got to say that I wish we would have another dance like this before school gets out.”
